    Bible study

December 1, 2013 by Obi the LEGO Fan

For a long while, Shadowfax and I were running a Bible study on Wednesday mornings. However, almost no one shows up for those anymore, and I don't want to wake up early for the study unless quite a few people come. I'm still open during that time, but I need to know if people will actually show up.

So, here's the questions for those reading the blog: do you want to be part of a study, and if so what times and what days work for you? There's already a study Friday evenings with A5 (if he still does them :P), so that time isn't available. If my schedule won't fit with what a lot of people want, I'll see if anyone else wants to run a study (if you're interested, you might as well say so in the comments).

    Thanks for reading!

In lieu of a chat log, I will be posting a summary (along with some of my own commentary) of our most recent Bible study on chat. A5, Shadowfax, Goggles, Batgirl and myself participated. We read and discussed James 4.

Most of our discussion revolved around James 4:6 and the theme of humility.

    "God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble."

We considered questions such as, what does it mean to be humble? What are ways that we can be humble? What does that look like in daily life? We came up with five main ways to be humble.

    1. Treat others better than yourself
    2. Give God the credit for accomplishments
    3. Be long suffering
    4. Recognize our ephemerality
    5. Confess God's sovereignty

Philippians 2 came up when discussing #1. It paints a picture of how we should…

I wanted to share some verses with you all. These verses are wonderful and significant verses when trying to understand apologetics. Enjoy!

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge" — Proverbs 1:7

"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." — Colossians 2:8

"My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments." — Colossia…

This blog marks the beginning of my apology for Christianity. And no, I'm not saying I'm sorry for being a Christian. For those of you who don't know, an apology is a formal defense, usually of one's philosophy/world view.

Also, a note. I decided to confine the question of origins to one blog, as opposed to combining it with other concepts. I think I have written plenty of material here for us to debate/discuss.

    Now to begin...

And thus we shall begin with the beginning. All complete world views must have an answer to this question: how did the universe begin?

Well, there are three choices. 1) the universe created itself. 2) the universe has always existed. 3) Someone created the universe. (I'll explain why it must be someone as opposed to somet…
